Music
At Fonthill Primary Academy, music is a vibrant and valued part of school life. We believe that music brings our community together, builds confidence and creativity, and gives every child the opportunity to express themselves.
Our curriculum is built around the Oak National Academy music programme, developed in partnership with Bristol Beacon and members of our Trust. This ensures a well-sequenced approach to developing musical knowledge and skills across the school.
Alongside this, we provide rich and varied opportunities for pupils to learn from specialist music teachers:
- Year 2 take part in a programme of singing lessons, developing vocal confidence and technique
- Year 3 learn instruments such as the ukulele and xylophone
- Years 4, 5 and 6 take part in a focused unit on music composition
For pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 who demonstrate a particular passion or aptitude for music, we offer free small group violin tuition, helping to nurture talent and provide further enrichment.
Music extends far beyond the classroom. As part of our partnership with Bristol Beacon, we take part in the Earthsong programme, giving children opportunities to visit and experience live music in a professional setting. Our school choir also performs at the Bristol Beacon, providing a memorable opportunity to perform in a renowned venue.
Singing is at the heart of our music offer. Through regular singing assemblies, pupils learn key vocal techniques and experience the joy of singing together. We also take part in wider events such as The Big Sing, where our children perform as part of the local community.
Through these experiences, children develop confidence, creativity and a strong sense of belonging. Music is a big part of life at Fonthill, and we aim for every child to develop a lifelong love of music alongside the skills to participate fully and confidently.
